Working Tests

Following a successful individual Saturday gundog test, Sunday bought the Team Challenge Competition. A slightly cooler day saw 9 teams of 3 undertaking 3 rounds of exercises, with the judges who would decide each retrieve. Judges Phil Parkins & Reg Rayner set an interesting and testing range of seen, blind and water retrieves which team members each asked by the judges to complete. Well done to all competitors and the Mid Norfolk Gundog club members who spent the day, throwing dummies, shepherding competitors and adding up scores. As the team captain of the winning team said in her thank you speech a lovely friendly fun day with plenty of good Gundog work shown in the beautiful surroundings of Euston Estate.

The Mid Norfolk Gundog Club ran an Individual Open Retriever GWT at the East Anglian Game and Country Fair on Saturday 25th April 2026, by kind invitation of the Duke and Duchess of Grafton.
Our Judges were Messrs Phil Parkins and Reg Rayner with commentary provided by Keith Bedford.
The weather was very kind to us today but the lack of breeze provided little scent at times but overall the dogs did exceedingly well on some difficult retrieves.
After a two dog run off the awards were given to:
1st - Pinfeathers Calypso handled by Nick Barker
2nd- Cawston New Rose handled by Tim Briggs
3rd - Willowdeep Stan handled by Dave Houghton
COM’s were awarded to:
Lannakers Quest of Tofts handled by Glynis Hillier
Pinfeathers Excalibur handled by Callum Raywood
A big thank you to everyone who took part today and helped, as you all made it a wonderfully enjoyable and relaxing day. Extra thanks to Robin English for setting up the tests, Paul Frapwell and James English for their excellent dummy throwing and Darren Broadrib for being my right hand man for the day.

The Mid Norfolk Gundog Club held a Special Puppy/ Novice Any Variety Retriever Test at Kilverstone Estate, Thetford, by very kind permission of Lord and Lady Fisher.
A good sized field was divided into four groups, and completed four exercises on a lovely piece of ground for gundog work. There was a water retrieve, a double mark in knee high reeds, and tests in woodland. There was a spread of experience, from IGL winner to first time handlers, and this was represented in the scores.
We were very fortunate that there was cloud cover so the day wasn't anyway near as hot as forecast, and didn't affect the running of the dogs.
The results were:
Puppy:
1st Pinfeathers Guinevert, Nick Barker
2nd Birdsgreen Article, Mike Tallamy
3rd Southgreen Magician, Doug Lafin
COM Brookehope Malachite, James Payne
COM Misty Green Meadow Land, Lesley Crompton
Novice:
1st Shallowbeck Bridie at Scarningvale, Peter Abbs
2nd Cecile Pearl Witherington, Andi Whitisham
3rd Caulincourt Ffion, Ben Southam
COM Norse Raven, Alice Trett
COM Galark Daisy of Rowenarcher, Kerry Ellis
A thank you to all the helpers who are the unsung heroes of these days. Particular thanks to Sue Southwell on her first GWT as secretary, Judith Curtis our new Trial Secretary. But massive thanks to Reg Rayner for supplying the ground, helping set up the tests, and stepping in as judge at fairly short notice.
Thank you also to our other three judges, Phil Askew, Ms Hayley Drew and Craig Jackson.
